Polyherbal Formulations & COVID-19

Polyherbal Formulations (PHFs): PHFs consist of mixtures of different herbals and spices, and have been traditionally used as medication since time immemorial for various therapeutic purposes - treatments including immune boosters, anti-inflammatories, anti-malarials, anti-virals, & many others.1

With synthetic pharmaceuticals, drug development can become extremely expensive, and often cause undesirable side effects. By contrast, Ayurvedic PHFs are relatively inexpensive, broadly accessible and well-accepted by the population, and due to their herbal/plant-derived nature, are significantly less likely to cause undesired side effects for patients.

COVID-19: Mortality in COVID-19 patients has been linked to the “cytokine storm” induced by the virus, which is characterized by excessive production of proinflammatory cytokines – leading to cell death, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) aggravation, and widespread tissue damage, resulting in multi-organ failure and death. Targeting cytokines in the management of COVID-19 patients could improve survival rates & reduce mortality.

PHFs targeting COVID-19: Our 3-day PHF regimen shows potential as potent COVID-19 remedy, with supporting safety and efficacy testing. The PHF has been prepared under GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards. We observed the effect of PHF on antimicrobial activity, antioxidant activity, and anti-inflammatory activity – boosting the immune system and improving function of major organs, including lungs, heart, and kidneys – in patients ranging from 18 to 80, male and female, including those with pre-existing conditions. All of whom have since tested negative for COVID-19, and have not since contracted the virus again. We continue to follow up with our treated patients to confirm our understanding of the mechanism and impact on each individual.

Ongoing PHF clinical trials: PHF clinical trials are increasing exponentially, given the urgent threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 100 PHF and Ayurveda clinical trials have been registered to CTRI (Clinical Trials Registry - India) in 2020. For the first time, almost all known anti-viral herbs of Indian heritage are under trials, in a concerted effort to seek out the best possible therapy and immunomodulators against COVID-19. 2
